ZIZ Terms of Use
Terms and Conditions
Version 3.0 — April 2026
1. General
ZIZ Foundation provides an online eHealth consultation through the website www.ziz.nl that offers you a personalized risk assessment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Based on your answers, you will receive advice on which STI tests are appropriate for you, whether you may be eligible for PrEP or PEP, and whether a dermatological photo consultation is recommended.
After completing the consultation, you may choose to visit a testing location or have testing kits delivered to your home. Once your test results are available, a physician will determine whether further treatment is required.
The website is expressly intended as a supplement to, and not a replacement for, regular healthcare. The online consultation provides guidance based on medical guidelines—it does not provide a medical diagnosis. The final treatment recommendation remains the responsibility of the treating physician.
By using the website, you agree to these Terms and Conditions.
2. Who May Use the Website
You may use the website if you are 12 years of age or older and have sufficient proficiency in the Dutch language. Since STI care is considered healthcare intended to prevent serious harm, young people aged 12 and older may use this service independently without the consent of a parent or legal guardian, in accordance with the Dutch Medical Treatment Contracts Act (WGBO).
You are responsible for ensuring that you have a working internet connection and a device that is free from malware. You may complete the eHealth consultation without creating an account. Registration and payment are required only if you choose to proceed with testing.
3. Use and Limitations
You may use ZIZ STI care services a maximum of four times per calendar year.
After registration and payment, you have three months to visit a ZIZ testing location or return a home sample collection kit. After this period, your data will be deleted and you will need to register again.
Do not use the website if you have emergency symptoms such as a high fever or severe abdominal pain. In such cases, call 112 or contact your general practitioner. If PEP may be indicated, contact an STI clinic or HIV treatment centre directly within 72 hours of the potential exposure.
4. Quality and Certification
The eHealth consultation was CE marked as a medical device under the Medical Devices Directive (MDD) in 2021. As part of the transition to the European Medical Device Regulation (MDR), the software is currently undergoing recertification by Notified Body Kiwa (NB 0344). Detailed product information, warnings, and performance characteristics are available at www.ziz.nl/over-deze-software.
The ZIZ laboratory was accredited as part of the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) medical microbiology laboratory. Following its separation on 1 February 2026, it is currently undergoing independent ISO 15189 accreditation by the Dutch Accreditation Council (RvA). ZIZ Foundation operates a quality management system compliant with ISO 13485 (medical devices), ISO 15189 (medical laboratories), and NEN 7510 (information security in healthcare).
The electronic patient record and healthcare provider dashboard are outside the scope of the medical device.
5. Your Data and Privacy
To provide the eHealth consultation and healthcare services, ZIZ processes personal data, including health data. ZIZ acts as the data controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and processes data in accordance with the Dutch Medical Treatment Contracts Act (WGBO).
Your responses, personal data, any test results, and photographs become part of your electronic patient record. All information is protected by medical confidentiality and is accessible only to your healthcare providers within ZIZ. Your data are stored within the European Union.
The eHealth consultation uses a machine learning model to estimate the probability of a positive test result. This estimate is provided for informational purposes only and never changes the guideline-based advice you receive.
For complete information about which data we process, why we process them, how long we retain them, and your rights, please refer to our Privacy Statement at www.ziz.nl. Questions regarding privacy may be sent to klantenservice@ziz.nl.
6. Complaints
Do you have a complaint about the website or the healthcare services provided through ZIZ? Please contact us using the contact form at www.ziz.nl/contact or by emailing klantenservice@ziz.nl. We will acknowledge receipt of your complaint within two business days and aim to resolve it within five business days.
If we cannot resolve the matter together, you may contact an independent complaints officer free of charge. If this also does not lead to a satisfactory resolution, you may submit your complaint to Klachtenportaal Zorg, the recognized healthcare dispute resolution body. Information about this procedure is available upon request. ZIZ handles complaints in accordance with the Dutch Healthcare Quality, Complaints and Disputes Act (Wkkgz).
7. Reporting Incidents
Have you experienced a serious incident that you believe may be related to the website or the healthcare services provided by ZIZ? Please report it via klantenservice@ziz.nl. You may also report incidents directly to the Dutch Health and Youth Care Inspectorate (IGJ) via www.igj.nl.
In the event of a personal data breach, ZIZ will notify the Dutch Data Protection Authority and, where required, inform you personally.
8. Liability
ZIZ Foundation makes every reasonable effort to ensure the proper functioning of the website and the careful provision of its services. However, ZIZ cannot guarantee uninterrupted access and shall not be liable for any damage resulting from technical failures, force majeure, or incorrect information provided by the user.
The online consultation provides guidance, not a medical diagnosis. ZIZ is not liable for any damage resulting from your failure to follow the advice to consult a healthcare professional.
9. Intellectual Property
All intellectual property rights relating to the website belong to ZIZ Foundation. You are granted a personal, revocable, and non-transferable right to use the website. You may not copy, modify, reproduce, or otherwise use the website or its contents without prior written permission.
10. Changes
ZIZ Foundation may amend these Terms and Conditions and will inform you of any material changes in a timely manner. Based on the experiences of users and healthcare professionals, ZIZ may also modify the website and reserves the right to perform updates, which may result in temporary unavailability.
11. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the Netherlands. Any disputes that cannot be resolved through the complaints procedure shall be submitted to the competent court in The Hague.
