When can I test reliably for STDs?

Chlamydia and gonorrhea: you can test reliably 2 weeks after sexual contact. If you have symptoms, you can test straight away.

Trichomonas and Mycoplasma: you can test reliably 3–4 weeks after sexual contact. If you have symptoms, you can test straight away.

HIV and syphilis: after 4 weeks, the test can detect 95% of infections; after 12 weeks this is 100%.

Hepatitis B: after 8 weeks the test can detect 95% of infections; after 12 weeks this is 100%.

Hepatitis C: after 8 weeks the test can detect 80% of infections, but only after 6 months is this 100%.

If you are unsure about your situation, you can always go through the ZIZ consultation.
